Cheating in Online Multiplayer Games is Killing the Fun

Online gaming has come a long way. From the days of split-screen couch co-op to massive online lobbies, gaming has evolved into a shared experience where players from around the world can compete, team up, and build communities. But there’s one thing that continues to plague the multiplayer experience—cheaters.

A perfect example of this is what’s happening with Marvel Rivals. Recently, the developers banned a tool called Blitz, which allowed players to gain unfair advantages like viewing enemy stats during matches. This isn’t just some minor exploit—it completely changes the way the game is played, making it an uneven playing field. Imagine stepping into a competitive match where the opposing team knows exactly what you’re planning. Not fun, right?

NetEase, the studio behind Marvel Rivals, has been battling cheaters since the game’s beta phase. In December last year, viral clips surfaced showing streamers openly using hacks to ruin the experience for others. Since then, the DEVs have stepped up their efforts, implementing measures like automatically ending matches when a cheater is detected. Now, with Blitz officially banned, they’re doubling down on their mission to keep the game fair and fun.

But here’s where things get tricky. Some players are worried that just having Blitz installed (even if they aren’t using it) could lead to bans. Since Blitz is also used in games like League of Legends, there’s concern that innocent players might get caught in the crossfire. While NetEase has assured players that past use won’t lead to penalties, they’re making it clear—going forward, third-party plugins won’t be tolerated.

The fight against cheaters isn’t just about Marvel Rivals—it’s a problem across the entire online gaming scene. Whether it’s aimbots in Call of Duty, wall hacks in CS:GO, or exploits in battle royale games, cheaters are ruining what makes gaming fun: the challenge, the competition, and the satisfaction of improving your skills. When winning comes down to who has the best cheat software instead of who actually plays better, the entire experience loses its meaning.

At the end of the day, gaming is supposed to be fun. It’s about testing your skills, enjoying a fair fight, and making those epic plays that you’ll remember for years. If you’re cheating, you’re not just hurting the game—you’re taking away the fun for everyone else. So if you want to be a better player, put in the time, learn the mechanics, and earn your wins the right way. Because at the end of the day, real victory comes from skill—not shortcuts.
